What is AKANA?
American Karate Academies National Association was founded by Jerry Piddington, O'Shihan.
Shinzo Kaizen Dojos are a chartered lifetime member of AKANA, along with karate academies across the United States.
AKANA endorses all Beikoku Tamashii Shorin Ryu Karatedo and Kobudo certifications.
The AKANA Pledge
AKANA is committed to providing martial art schools and Karateka across the United States with an organization that secures their martial arts lineage with the pioneer of American Karate, Jerry Piddington, O' Shihan , founder of the first American Style of Karate, called American Open Style, under the USKA sanctified charter established by Robert Trias, O' Sensei, Father of American Karate. Our goal is to provide martial art schools and individuals of any style with an opportunity to become affiliated with a martial arts organization that provides access to promotions, teaching credentials, honored titles, and proclamation of styles endorsed and signed by Jerry C. Piddington, O'Shihan.
Ricky Smith, Hanshi took over as the President and Director in 2022.

Chosin Chibana- Student of Anko Itosu
Shugoro Nakazato- Founder of the Shorinkan Shorin Ryu Organization
Tadashi Yamashita- Trained Piddington, O'Shihan Kobayahi Ryu lineage of Shorin Ryu
Jerry Piddington- Founder of the American Karate Academies National Association.
C.J. Mayo- Current AKANA Assistant Director under the Current President a
Robert Trias (1923 - 1989) was the first American to open a commercial Dojo in America. O'Sensei Trias was one the first to promote and direct an open tournament series. O'Sensei passed away at the rank 10th Dan.
